100 years of trading
Our business is situated in the original commercial street of Port Alfred along the banks of the Kowie River where ships offloaded their cargo.
Dalys Sparg, the original owner, had the foresight to begin trading with furniture 40 years ago and his daughter, Mickey, and grand-daughter, Jade, continue the tradition.
A destination shop with the unique characteristic of offering every type of furniture in one area, it has stood the test of time.
Sparg’s Furnishers consists of a number of sections. The Paddle Inn is a quirky antique shop where you can step back in time as you browse in our historical building.
The Cup and Chaucer is a shop with a difference – a library with bookcases, books, memorabilia, desks and dining room furniture. You may while away the hours paging through vintage magazines or read a book while enjoying a cup of coffee.
The Trading Post showcases upmarket new furniture & bedding, including stunning American imports of the highest quality. It is transformed into a theatre on a monthly basis when locals and holidaymakers are wined and dined while being entertained by live musicians.
Frank’s on the Wharf is our in-house bistro, situated in our beautiful Italian courtyard. The original Sparg’s building houses second-hand furniture, new furniture and appliances.
Experiencing the ambience of a bygone era along the beautiful banks of the Kowie River in historical Wharf Street where quaint bistros offer fine cuisine and a theatre, entertainment, Wharf Street is certainly the waterfront of the Eastern Cape!
